Ensemble Me La Amargates Tú Prize winners of the "International Jewish Music Competition" in Amsterdam (May 2008), Ensemble Me la Amargates Tú, arose from the interest and research of its members on Sephardic music as well as on Spanish music from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. The lyrics of the Sephardic songs in the repertoire of Me la Amargates Tú are written in Ladino. The Sephardic Jewish community has preserved the Ladino language for centuries as well as their songs, keeping alive the memory of a culture that is now spread in many countries throughout the world. Me la Amargates Tú combines the folkloric Ladino tradition with musical elements from the period in which these Sephardic Jewish communities lived in the Iberian Peninsula, prior to their expulsion by the Inquisition. Sephardic music from that period only includes the melody and the text. Therefore, Me la Amargates Tú combines instruments from this period with hours of rehearsal and musical arrangements, all to create the most approximate and appropriate results. The members of Me la Amargates Tú studied with teachers considered world eminences in the field of Early Music, such as Jaap ter Linden, Peter van Heyghen, Christina Pluhar, Donna Agrell, and Rainer Zipperling. Me la Amargates Tú performs numerous concerts around the world, including Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Greece and Israel, and its members work from The Hague, Holland, the city where their interests and research joined to bring back the sounds from Sefarad. The ensemble's first CD "Alma Vida Coraçón" was released by PAN records in February 2010. 

Esteban Manzano - Tenor

He started his musical studies in Argentina, where he was born, with the teachers Elsa Paladino, Rina Nigri and Nino Falzetti. He finished his studies at the Early Music Department of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, The Netherlands, with the teachers Manon Heijne, Sasja Hunnego, Michael Chance, Jill Feldman and Peter Kooij.

He was a member of the following professional choirs: Vocal Ensemble of Quilmes Town Hall (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Chamber Choir of 3 de Febrero Town Hall (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Vocal Ensemble of La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Chamber Choir of Namur (Namur, Belgium).

In Argentina he was invited by the conductors Gabriel Garrido, Andrés Gerszenszon, Guillermo Opitz, Marcelo Birman and Santiago Santero, among others, to sing as a soloist pieces such as: Liebeslieder Walzer by Brahms, Vespro della Beata Vergine by Monteverdi, Le Reniement de
St. Pierre by Charpentier, David et Jonathas by Charpentier, Castor et Pollux by Rameau, Fairy Queen by Purcell, Dido and Aeneas by Purcell, Johannes Passion by Bach, Laborintus II by Berio, Postales by Demiére, "Aura" by Sánchez Verdú and several compositions of the Latin American Baroque period.

In Europe his debut as a soloist was with the opera Gli Amori di Apollo e di Dafne (Apollo) by Cavalli, conducted by Gabriel Garrido, which was performed in the Concertgebouw of Brugge, Stadtschouwburg of Groningen and Amsterdam and in the Festival of Theater of Brussels.
Later on, he was invited by Christina Pluhar to sing with ensemble L'Arpeggiata the operas Rapressentazione di Anima e di Corpo by Cavalieri, Il Palazzo Incantato by Rossi and La Euridice by Peri. He was invited by the Bachvereniging to sing as a soloist the Vespro della Beata Vergine under the direction of Rinaldo Alessandrini. In Barcelona he sung the B minor Mass and the Weihnachts Oratorium (Evangelist and arias) by J.S.Bach and Die Schopfung (Uriel) by Haydn conducted by Jordi Mora. His latest presentation as a soloist was together with the ensemble Florilegium Musicum of London conducted by Ashley Solomon, with which he sung a program of bolivian baroque music in the Edimburgh Festival, among other places.

As an opera soloist he has sung the following characters: Orlando (Il Palazzo Incantato) by L. Rossi, Aminta (L´Euridice) by J. Peri, Arnalta (L´Incoronazione di Poppea) by C. Monteverdi, Apollo (Gli amori di Apollo e di Dafne) by F. Cavalli, La Pythonisse (David et Jonathas) by M. A. Charpentier, Polichinela (Le malade imaginaire) by M. A. Charpentier, Aeneas, Sorceress, Spirit and Sailor (Dido and Aeneas) by H. Purcell, Chinese Man, Mopsa, Autumn and Sorceress (Fairy Queen) by H. Purcell, Acis and Damon (Acis and Galatea) by G. F. Haendel, Bastien (Bastien und Bastienne) by W. A. Mozart, Tamino and Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte) by W. A. Mozart, Ferrando (Cosí fan Tutte) by W. A. Mozart, Romeo (Roméo et Juliette) C. Gounod, Aritmethique and Rainette (L´Enfant et les Sortiléges) by M. Ravel.

He is a founding and current member of the ensemble Me La Amargates Tú.

Doret Florentin - Recorders

Doret Florentin is a native of Thessaloniki, Greece. After beginning her recorder studies in Greece, she continued at Tel Aviv University in Israel. There she studied with Bracha Kol and Shlomo Tidhar and received both her B.A. and M.A degrees with honors, as well as a B.A. in mathematics and statistics.
After finishing her studies for the First Phase Degree in The Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Sebastien Marq in 2002, she acquired her Second Phase degree in the same school, under the supervision of Dorothea Winter and Peter van Heyghen. In 2007, she completed her studies in the historical bassoon with Donna Agrell and with Alberto Grazzi.

Doret's rich concert experience includes playing in projects with Nicholas Cramer, Gabriel Garrido (Academy of Ambronay), Nigel North, Ton Koopman, Jos van Immerseel (NJO), as well as recording for the Israeli Radio. She has performed with various groups in international festivals such as Utrecht (fringe), Barcelona (fringe), Augsburg and Thessaloniki (Dimitria Festival).

Since 2008, she has moved back to Israel, where she has been performing in main venues and has been teaching the recorder in, among others, the Levinsky College of Education in Tel-Aviv.
She is a founding member of Me La Amargates Tu ensemble.
She has held a grant from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation between 2000 and 2003.

Sarah Ridy - Baroque harp

Sarah began to play the harp at the age of eight and graduated with honours in pedal harp at the Royal Northern College of music in 2003. IN 2006 she obtained her degree in Baroque harp performance at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, studying with Christina Pluhar. Two years later she finished her Early Music Masters programme at the same conservatory.

Since starting in The Hague, she has become a member of several ensembles and performed with them as part of the Utrecht Festival of Early Music and in many informal concerts. She has recently played in concerts with the ensemble L'Arpeggiata, also taking part in the Cavalli opera Ercole Amante as part of the festivald'Ambronay in autumn 2006 in France, and performances of Caccini's Eurydice in Belgium.

She has also performed as a soloist, most recently in Liverpool Cathedral in January 2007 and looks forward to expanding further the solo repertoire for the Baroque harp.

Tulio Rondon - Viola da gamba

Tulio Rondon was born in Venezuela. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree at the Simón Bolivar Conservatory, where at the age of seventeen he was appointed cello teacher. As one of the founding members of the Aragua Symphony Orchestra in Venezuela, Tulio served as a principal cellist for six years.In 1997 Tulio was invited to join the Cuarteto de Cuerdas América, and was chamber music assistant at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio (USA). In May 1999 Tulio Rondón received his Master's Degree in cello performance from Miami University.

Tulio Rondón's chamber music experiences have taken him all over the world, participating in concerts in North and South America and throughout Europe, and sharing stage with world celebrated artists, including Gil Shaham, Paul Katz, James Tocco, Hagen String Quartet, Pacifica String Quartet, and the Miro String Quartet.

Tulio Rondón completed his Doctoral Degree at the University of Arizona, (Tucson-Arizona), in the year 2005. He also holds a post-doctoral degree in early music from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Holland, where he studied baroque cello and viola da gamba with Jaap ter Linden and Rainer Zipperling. Tulio Rondón teaches at The University of Wisconsin - Eau Cliare.

Cristian Gutiérrez - Baroque guitar

Cristian was born in Santiago, Chile. He studied classical guitar with the maestro Ernesto Quezada, in the Conservatory of Music of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile, finishing with the highest mark in this area and the first place in his promotion. In 1999 he was the only one recipient of the prize that the "Municipal Theater of Chile" awards to young national talents. He began studying lute, vihuela, and baroque guitar, and was later awarded with the scholarship "Andes Foundation" to travel to Spain for advanced studies at the Superior Conservatory of Seville with Juan Carlos Rivera, and at the Isaac Albéniz Conservatory of Gerona with Xavier Díaz-Latorre, finishing his career with Matrícula de Honor, the highest academic distinction in Spain. He has participated in courses and seminars of early music, having lessons and working several times under the direction of the noted specialist Hopkinson Smith.

Cristian has made numerous recordings including award winning "A tocar, a cantar, a baylar" based on the anthology of colonial music by the noted musicologist Samuel Claro. He has taken part in recordings for the radio University of Chile, radio Beethoven and radio of the University of Santiago and in emissions for Spain, France, England, Holland and Portugal.

For several years he has done outstanding work as soloist and member of diverse groupings, playing with such out-standing personalities as Monica Huggett, Gabriel Garrido, Manfredo Kraemer, Pedro Estevan, Rodrigo del Pozo, Ventura Rico, etc. He has performed in Chile, Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Czech Republic, Spain, Switzerland, Uruguay, Greece, Israel, Italy, the United States, the Netherlands, Norway, France and Portugal.

Juan Martinez - Percussion

Completed a Masters Degree in Classical Percussion at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Holland, with the help of the FONCA scholarship.
In 1999, he won the first prize at the National Solo Marimba Competition in Chiapas, Mexico.
In 2001, he was awarded with the first prize at the International Marimba Duo Competition (Belgium) with XOC Duo.
In 2005 he won the 3rd prize at the International Percussion Competition (Luxembourg) with the Ear Massage Percussion Quartet, as well as the 2nd prize at the 2009 International Gaudeamus Competition (Amsterdam).

As a soloist, he has been working very close with young composers, premiering during the last years several works written for him. Specialised in contemporary music, he has collaborated with different ensembles, orchestras and dance companies, playing in more than 24 countries in Asia, Europe, Middle East and America. Juan is currently a member of the ensembles Insomnio, Slagwerk Den Haag, Ear Massage Quartet, Me La Amargates Tú and Moza Mala.
