Isabel Favilla was born in Brasília in 1984 and began her musical studies at the age of five with the piano. A year later she entered the Escola de Música de Brasília, where she took up the recorder as her main instrument. She studied with Karla Dias (recorder), Fernando Lopes and Ana Cecília Tavares (chamber music and harpsichord). In June 2001 she concluded her course in recorder. In paralell to her activities in Brasília, she participated in the most important Early Music festivals in Brazil. In Europe, she took part in the Curso Internacional de Interpretación Histórica from the Fundaciò La Caixa, in Spain, where she followed lessons and masterclasses with Han Tol, Alfredo Bernardini and Alberto Grazzi among others. In 2007 she received her Master's Degree with grote onderscheiding at the Royal Consevatory of Brussels where she studied with Bart Coen. She was also student of Peter De Clerq, Hermann Stinders, Jan de Winne and Alain Gervreau.
She has performed solo and chamber music recitals in Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, Brussels, Den Haag and Utrecht. She has been to Chile three times performing as a soloist with the Orquesta de la Universidad Austral de Chile. She took part in two cd recordings: Handel's opera Tolomeo with Il Complesso Barocco (Alain Curtis) and with Collegium Musicum Den Haag (Claudio Ribeiro) in their debut recording L'Europe Réunie. Since September 2007 she studies baroque bassoon and dulcian with Donna Agrell and Wouter Verschuren at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.
Born in 1983 in Rio de Janeiro, Inês d'Avena moved to Holland in 2001 to study at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague. In May 2005 she concluded the Bachelor Degree in Music under the orientation of Reine-Marie Verhagen; in the same year she finished the teaching diploma with the jury's compliments on her work with young musicians. Compelled by a keen and genuine interest in Neapolitan baroque music and by the wish to continue to perfect her recorder skills, continued studies at the Royal Conservatoire, under the orientation of Sébastien Marq and with musicological research on "The recorder in early 18th century Naples" supervised by Peter van Heyghen. In May 2007 she finished the Master Degree at the Koninklijk Conservatorium.
Inês has performed with the Nationale Reisopera and took part at the 12ème Académie Baroque Européenne d'Ambronay under the direction of William Christie, with concerts throughout France and Spain; has also performed as soloist at the Anton Philipszaal, at the Château de Chimay and participated in the fringe program of the Holland Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht in 2004 and 2006, the later with three concerts in different formations. In 2006 Inês co-founded the Collegium Musicum Den Haag, with which she performs regularly throughout Holland and Austria. The orchestra, directed by Claudio Ribeiro has already recorded 2 CDs (L'Europe Réunie, released in 2007 and a "pasticcio" of Händel works to be released this year still - ORF Edition Alte Musik). She recently performed as soloist with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra at the Itinéraire Baroque Festival.
The duo Schifanoia was named after the homonymous Renaissance palace in Ferrara. "Schifar la noia" (to "escape from boredom") resonates harmoniously with the music the duet plays: baroque works written for music lovers to pass time. Inês and Isabel met in 1998 in their native Brazil and have been playing together ever since in various ensemble formations. Now master graduates of the conservatories of The Hague and Brussels respectively, the consolidation of the duo in order to dedicate time to studying and performing these works was a natural process. Schifanoia has concerts upcoming in The Hague and a small tour in Brazil this July with a program of baroque music and chorinho.
